Myanmar – 2014

Myanmar, particularly its former capital Yangon (Rangoon), boasts the largest number of colonial-era buildings in Southeast Asia, showcasing a unique blend of Victorian, Edwardian Baroque, Art Deco, and traditional Burmese architectural styles. These structures, often in various states of repair, are significant historical landmarks. Many colonial-era structures, such as the Sofaer Building, have been described as falling into disrepair, with rusted pipes and crumbling facades.

Organizations like the Yangon Heritage Trust were actively fighting to prevent the demolition of these historic sites in favor of modern high-rises.

Here, Christian Voigt captures a building in disrepair.
