The unmistakable fin of a highly endangered oceanic whitetip rose like a mountain capped in a dusting of snow from beneath the thin line of the surface and I felt my heart hammer at the rare encounter. Once a prolific species, these stunning sharks are now nearly impossible to find in the ocean’s depths.
