The Acid Test movement was a 1960s Californian counterculture phenomenon led by author Ken Kesey and his group, the Merry Pranksters, featuring parties centered on the recreational use of LSD. These events, aimed at promoting consciousness expansion, influenced the hippie movement and featured black lights, fluorescent paint, and strobe lights, creating a chaotic, psychedelic experience.
The image later appeared on the cover of the Capitol Records LP Hollywood Acid Test, released the same year, thus cementing its place in music and counterculture history.
