Again drawing on Compton’s recognition of the sublime in his photography, TRAVELING LIGHT manages to combine this abstraction with the instinct to travel. The grandiose range captured in this image establishes a feeling of moving forward, regardless of destination. This image represents one of the most powerful idealisms that inspires travel: the capability for experiential learning, especially of cultures and landscapes that are foreign to oneself and are waiting to be discovered.
