The Musher

Greenland
“In Inuit culture dogs are considered neither pets nor friends; instead they are extremely important working animals. Their obedience is paramount to the vital job of pulling a sled on what often are very dangerous conditions. The sled is used as a means of transportation among villages and for hunting.”

How the Leopard Got its Spots (Color)

Segera, Kenya – 2025
This piece was created in Segera, a private conservancy in northern Kenya where the ancient rhythms of the African savannah unfold in golden silence. The image captures a solitary leopard sitting alone on an asutere branch—a moment of wild grace that speaks to my desire to bear witness to the poetry of the natural world.
Presented in two editions—one in colour and one in black and white—this work offers dual perspectives on a single truth. The colour print immerses the viewer in the sensory intensity of the place: the gentle warmth of the rising sun, the perfect camouflage of the predator’s coat, the breathless tension of its quiet stare. It is a study in harmony, in how light and form meet to express the fleeting beauty of the now.
In contrast, the black and white edition is a meditation in minimalism. Devoid of pigment, it leans into abstraction, where the negative space and muscular lines of the leopard become pure composition. The image becomes not just a document of an encounter, but a statement of visual philosophy: that nature’s design is its own form of art.
What I was trying to convey with this image is the quiet assertion that art and ecology are inseparable. No ecosystem exists in isolation. Just as the leopard governs balance in the grasslands, so too do its actions ripple outward—to forests, to rivers, and ultimately to the sea.
This photograph is not merely a visual experience; it is an invitation to contemplate the interconnectedness of all life. In owning this piece, one acquires not only a work of art, but a testament to the wild intelligence of Earth itself.

Bear Duet (Platinum)

2019 – British Columbia, Canada
The thick fog curled in shadowy tendrils rising from the tree tops and settling over the river. In the distance, I could just make out the silhouettes of two brown bears moving steadily through the frigid waters. Here in the heart of British Columbia, grizzlies like this pair seem almost tiny in their massive range of towering pines and sprawling streams. No matter how big or small, there is a place for all of us on this beautiful planet. All we have to do to ensure cohabitation is keep our green and wild spaces thriving.

Lady with the Goose II (Silver Gelatin Print)

Yunnan Province, China – 2008
“Whim and humor are two of the qualities I look for in an image. I photographed this Lisu woman from one of the Tibetan minorities in China, as she took her pet goose for a walk in a street market in the southwestern corner of China. The image, made with an old single reflex Yashica camera, always makes me smile.”

Memory and Thunder

Kenya, 2025
am thrilled to introduce the first of my newest limited edition releases, ‘Memory and Thunder.’ Known by the Maasai as “Tembo,” the Elephant King, Craig was born in 1972 and is likely the largest living elephant in the world. Although I rarely apply treatments to my images beyond monochrome and color, recently I have been drawn to the emotional depth that warmer tones can create.
Before sepia became a vintage aesthetic, it was a novel darkroom process that converted silver into silver sulfide, giving prints longer life. The treatment produced a brownish tone, wrapping beloved faces and landscapes in the warm hues of memory. Today it is often associated with nostalgia, but in this case I chose to use sepia for its symbolic promise: that what we love, what we fight for, and what we hope to preserve, can outlast us all if we are willing to protect it.

All That Glitters

Bahamas , 2021
“As the setting sun doused the islands in fiery gold, a flock of flamingos belted their joyful, if not a little off-key, chorus. Their honks and throaty chirps carried across the sparkling shallows to where I had waded out with my camera. When photographers talk about capturing the moment, we are not just freezing time in a two-dimensional capsule; we’re creating something that continues to evolve. That’s the difference between the pictures I snap and the ones I make where my subjects take on new life in an art print. In this moment, I felt an overpowering sense of awe for the beauty of the Bahamas and the stirrings of nostalgia. It was close to the end of our time working within the archipelago and I already missed it. But I also knew there would be more treasures like this sunset on the next voyage.” – Cristina Mittermeier`
