A rogue herd of goats from one of the villages on the outskirts of Lençóis Maranhenses, Brazil cross the dunes at the edge of a tannin-dyed river. Home to otters, countless birds, and maned wolves, the national park’s coastal ecosystem is characterized by miles of white crescent dunes interlaced with wetlands and rain-filled pools. There is no better example of nature’s vast and intricate handiwork stitched over the 600-square-mile canvas.
