The near-silence of the ice world at the heart of the Arctic is at once serene and deeply unsettling. As my team and I made our way through the maze of icy turrets and glass pinnacles, we came across this crystalline palisade perfectly mirrored by the ocean’s surface. Despite the stillness of the scene, I knew the world just below us was cracking under the pressure of a warming climate. Over the years, it has become clear that we have vastly underestimated the effects of climate change, and it will take every one of us to address this global crisis.
