Uncharted

Franz Josef Land, Russia, 2017

As 2024 draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the connections that have fueled my work throughout the year. While I am currently in Indonesia, documenting the beauty and challenges of the region’s marine ecosystems, the Arctic remains deeply embedded in my heart. Life on Earth, after all, is inextricably interconnected, and the impact of rising ocean temperatures is felt everywhere—from coral reefs to the frozen far north.

This year has brought immense challenges for our planet, but also moments of perseverance and gratitude. As we look ahead to a new year and a new chance to protect nature’s beauty, I want to honor the animal that first ignited my passion for conservation. Polar bears were among the earliest subjects of my work as a photographer, and their stories continue to inspire me today.
