Pipeline Poetry

Mākaha, Hawaii, 2013

I rarely had the opportunity to learn water-sports in my youth (given most of the water was ice where I grew up), so photographing the best surfers in the world as they soared effortlessly along the famous waves of Mākaha was the next best thing. My Hawaiian hosts took me in, showed me the ropes, kept me safe, and helped me return home with the images that allowed me to tell their story best.
