Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, Brazil – 2024
“Most of my work as a photographer centers on close shots of wildlife and their habitats, but sometimes the best way to fully appreciate the sheer scale of nature’s beauty is to take to the sky. Such was the case with the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, one of the world’s most unique ecosystems and a recently-declared UNESCO World Heritage site in Brazil. For about 600 square miles, sand dunes rise like ocean swells from a mosaic of seasonal, rain-filled lagoons. Veins of red, deep brown, and rust spill across the landscape.” – Paul Nicklen
