We humans are so easily captivated by the ferocity and power of wildlife. But when given the choice, most animals will choose peace over conflict.

When we came across this silverback in the mountains of Rwanda, he gave us a brief assessment to ensure we were no threat to his harem and then simply returned to foraging.

A gorilla’s first priority is always the safety and cohesion of the troop. It’s a lesson I find myself returning to in times of stress, or when the world feels especially off-kilter. Keep your focus on what matters most: taking care of your loved ones, supporting your community, and cultivating connection through nature.
