The High Stone Pride

Namiri Plains, Tanzania, 2025

High on a granite kopje rising from the Namiri Plains, a small coalition of lionesses had carved out a nursery. These granite outcroppings, formed during the Precambrian era, are characteristic features of the Serengeti–Mara ecosystem and offer both elevation and shelter for wildlife. One female stood guard while the other dozed in her shadow, their offspring sprawling confidently across the rock.
