One of Kenya’s last great tuskers stands beneath a sprawling branches of an old tree reaching towards the clouds above. Wildlife protections like the ones Kenya has in place offer wildlife a safe haven, allowing the region’s incredible biodiversity to thrive amid the challenges of a changing, ever-warming world.

However, protections do not extend past the nation’s borders. There is a new war on African wildlife and my heart goes out to all of the rangers who risk their lives daily to protect the last of these giants from poaching. We need more safe spaces for animals to roam and learn to tread with a kinder footprint across our planet.
